Hi friends and family! We have noticed a pattern in questions during our first year of operation. To make things a little more helpful we have created this frequently asked questions post to help answer your questions, quickly and easily. Hope this information helps!
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located between Jacksonville, NC, and Richlands, NC, off of Gum Branch Road. We’re in the middle of Onslow County, close to beaches of eastern NC. Perfect for a destination wedding, but keeping a rustic flare.
Q: How do I schedule a tour? Can I come see the venue whenever I want?
A: Due to the venue residing on private property, one must schedule a tour in order to enter the property or else it will be seen as trespassing. A tour can be scheduled by clicking here: rusticbarnathalfmoon.com/contact
Q: When do tours take place?
A: We facilitate tours Tuesday – Thursday in the afternoons to early evenings. We do this because these are the least likely days we have events and that someone is guaranteed to be in the office. To further explain, we do not conduct tours while another client’s event is taking place, and we would not do with your’s. We respect all clients’ time and investment in the property.
Q: When are your office hours?
A: Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm, event depending. We flex our time and days off depending on events. If leaving a message or placing an inquiry it may take a few days for us to get back to you, A) because we are facilitating an event, B) our team needs some R&R too. We promise we will get back to you by the next business day!
Q: Do you only do weddings?
A: Nope! We facilitate all types of events. Weddings have just been the top type of event booked at the venue. We can also host proms, balls, retirements, birthdays, quinceaneras, bridal showers, fundraisers, conferences, holiday parties, etc.
Q: How much does it cost to rent the venue?
A: This is such a hard question because it depends what all is needed for the event. There are so many variables that come into play. First, it depends if you’re wanting to rent the entire facility or just the pavilion or patio. For a better explanation, click here: rusticbarnathalfmoon.com/info

Q: How much does a wedding cost?
A: We have different levels of packages and pricing for weddings. Our base price is $7,500 for 100 guests or less and goes up from there.
Q: How do I secure a date/event?
A: A date can only be secured with a 10% non refundable retainer and signed contract
Q: How long does the venue rental include?
A: For weddings, the venue is rented for 12 hours. For private parties and other events, we have a minimum of 4 hours rental and can go up to 8 hours. Additional hours can be purchased at a rate of $250/hr.
Q: What is the time frame of the venue rental?
A: Doors close at 10:00pm for events. The cutoff time is 10:00pm to align with county ordinances for noise and due to being on private property.
Q: Can I take photos/have photo sessions at the venue?
A: Yes, we encourage photos sessions as long as they are scheduled and paid for prior to arrival. Due to being on private property, a venue attendant must be available when the photo sessions are taking place. Thus the reason for scheduling and fee. Q: Can I bring my own food?
A: While we love grandma’s cooking, home cooked goods are not allowed in the venue. Food must be provided by a licensed and insured caterer. Food must be provided by those in good standing with the health department. The way we are sanctioned with the health department makes us require this.
Q: I want to provide my own alcohol, can I do this?
A: The Rustic Barn at Half Moon must provide all alcohol on the premises; this includes all the land, parking lots, etc. Outside alcohol is prohibited due to our licenses with the state. If outside alcohol is found, the guest(s) will be asked to leave immediately and those who signed the contract will be fined. We don’t enjoy being the sticklers, but outside alcohol will jeopardize our license and will ruin the opportunity for future events.
Q: Do you all facilitate the Christmas Lights too?
A: The Rustic Barn at Half Moon does not put on the light show. Our parent company, ELJ Farms LLC, is in charge of the light show. Check out their website here: eljfarms.com
Q: Do you all host public events?
A: We try to host public events at least once a month. It depends on our availability and client bookings. Some public events we have already hosted are Food Truck Rodeos, Football Watch Parties, Open Houses, and our Wedding Expo. We hope to branch out more as our second year of operation comes around.
